May 29 What's typical in US--美国的水塔在美国开过车的人都知道，经常路过各种各样的水塔。尤其是一些郊区，往往在水塔上标出自己的村名，远远就可望到。我一向觉得这个东西比较丑，不过也可以称得上美国的特色之一了。 尽管美国人嘲笑其他州的时候，总是说那个州只有玉米，但是美国人骨子里对玉米的热爱是掩饰不住的。下面这个是Rochester, MN别具一格的玉米水塔。种玉米，谈论玉米是美国人永久的嗜好。在美国的郊区，要找到没有玉米地的地方是很难的。

The plane was about to depart for a scheduled flight to Bahrain when it crashed.
Four of the five crew members on board the Boeing 747 were slightly injured and were hospitalized, said Jan Van der Cruysse, spokesman at Brussels Airport. "The plane is very seriously damaged," he said. The aircraft cracked in two after it crashed at the end of the runway, which lies very close to a rail line and houses. Rail services to and from the airport were suspended as a safety precaution, however the crash did not affect other flights at the airport, Van der Cruysse said. Francis Vermeiren, mayor of the nearby town of Zaventem, said the plane did not catch on fire when it crashed after attempting to take off. Vermeiren was coordinating rescue efforts at the airport. "The plane is not on fire but it has split into two," he told VRT radio. Firefighters coated the wings of the plane with special fire retardant foam as a precaution because the plane was still full of jet fuel, the mayor said. He said the plane was on a scheduled flight to Bahrain. It was not known what cargo the plane was carrying.
Vermeiren said the pilot told rescue authorities he heard a large noise while trying to take off just after midday. It was not yet clear what caused the crash. The plane is owned by Kalitta Air, a cargo carrier based at Willow Run Airport near Ypsilanti, Michigan, and makes regular flights from Brussels, officials said. A person who answered the telephone at Kalitta Air said Sunday morning that no one was immediately available to comment.

It was quite a bit of culture shock at first, but I decided that rather than cling to my California identity, I would become a TRUE Illinoisian. Of course, first, I had to figure out what that was. So I, started asking people, and I learned quite a few things. I learned that True Illinoisans like me, why we like things like, Abraham Lincoln, corn, The Fighting Illini (even when they lose), and anything that’s flat. Well, except girls. But I also learned there are a few things that True Illinoisans, we just don’t like. On top of that list? I’m afraid it’s true… Los Angeles, California. And in the spirit of being a True Illinoisan, , I’ve decided that I hate Los Angeles.”

我觉得美国人之所以觉得除了他们住的地方其他地方都不好，其实就是因为美国每个地方都不怎么样。在一个地方呆久了，习惯了它的不好，就觉得好了。像我现在在Minneapolis呆的久了，就觉得美国其他地方都不怎么样。比如我去亚特兰大会觉得亚特兰大怎么这么破，不过说不定Minneapolis在刚来的人眼里也很破，而且说不定人家亚特兰大过来的也觉得这儿破。只不过我看过了太多这里破的地方，就不觉得这是破了。而碰上了另外一个城市不一样的破，我就会觉得很破。嗯，我说得好有道理啊。另外美国人好喜欢取笑其他地方是玉米地啊，但是美国有不种玉米的地方么？只不过他们没见到罢了。我刚来这里的时候有个老师就说你坐飞机出了Minnesota到Iowa的上空，在飞机上都能闻到玉米味。我心里想那是因为你在Twin Cities, Minnesota其他地方的玉米肯定也少不到哪儿去，有什么好笑人家Iowa的啊，真没劲。就把这些互相歧视做做笑料好了。
May 03 美国哀叹网速落后，平均仅2Mb/s嗯，美国在对其他国家指指点点之前，应该多做一些这样的调查。他们实在是不知道，在很多技术属于美国的耀眼光芒背后，他们的生活水准和现代化程度真的很落后，我都不好意思跟他们说什么。 作为全球互联网Internet的发源地和“中心”，美国目前的网络速度并不乐观。美国通信职工(CWA)组织日前进行了一次全国性调查，结果发现美国的平均网速还不到2Mb/s，不足日本的1/30。 CWA在对全美8万名宽带用户进行统计后发现，美国网民的平均下载速度为1.973Mb/s，而日本高达61Mb/s，另外网速较高的国家还有：韩国45Mb/s、法国17Mb/s、加拿大7Mb/s。 CWA总裁Larry Cohen忧心忡忡地表示：“与世界其他国家相比，我们的网速真的很悲惨。人们也许没有注意到，我们国家的商用互联网已经大大落伍了。为了维持我们在全球经济中的地位，并增加就业机会，政府必须有所行动了。” 美国人有时间还是多修修这种危房(取自St. Louis wikipedia，不过好有代表性哦)，还有那一颠一颠的破路吧。
